Could be the lighting circuit breaker getting old and building up heat, it's
under the ignition switch.
Also, could be the ignition switch itself. Pull your dash off and look at
the underside, look for any
burn marks from the dash making contact with the switch terminals.
If you decide to replace the ignition switch, you can upgrade the switch to
the latest version
of the HD switch, uses a door that won't rattle and a barrel key, and
replaces all the screwed
terminals with three flag terminals. You just have to figure out the right
length spacers to set the
switch to the right height for your dash.
