Yup, reliability and expense. The older version had a backup system that
would determine the
phase of the engine should the cam signal be lost, so they just
incorporated that into the normal
functions and eliminated one more sensor. If I stumble across a 2001 stock
module I'll put it
in my bike, one less thing to give me grief.

Gotta wait for Morris to come up with a magneto drive unit for the twin
cam,
then you can put on the kicker and acetylene lamps.
