If you look at the underside of the frame, there are two bosses halfway back,
one on each side.
this is about the balance point of the bike, front to rear. Pick a convenient
place on a bench or wall,
butt the front tire up against it, then put eyebolts in the bottom of the bench
or wall about 2
feet on either side of the front wheel and near the floor. Connect a quality
bike hold down strap
between the fork tube at the lower tree or handlebar if you have to, to either
eyebolt, pull down the front
end a bit. Now attach a 1x1 strip up either side of the tire to keep the bike
upright.
Slide your jack under the bike, and put the cradle under that cross member,
with a 2x4 straddling
those two bosses, and clear of the front shock bolts, and lift the rear of the
bike just until the weight is off
the shocks. Now you can pull them out.
Left and right are identical and interchangeable. The washers are supposed to
rattle on the shock bolts.
(means the shock bolts are shouldered and shouldn't pinch the ends of the
shock. Antisleeze on the
pivot bolts where the shock eyes rides is a good thing to prevent a squeak.
