Assuming you're running stock ignition, your plate is only a pickup switch.

Behind it there is a rotor cup with windows cut into it and it rides in a
slot in
the backside of the aluminum plate you're looking at. This plate has slots
that
the holddown screws sit in, allows you to turn the plate as needed to set
the
timing correctly. Turn the plate clockwise advances the timing, and vice
versa.

It's a 'hall-effect' switch, meaning it has no mechanical contacts, it
operates
using magnetic fields. The switch has 3 wires, power (red) ground (black)
and
signal (green). The sensor gets it's power and ground via the ignition
module
and the signal is low (0 volts) when there is a window in the slot, and
high (12volts) when the metal cup is in the slot. You can simulate this
with a thin piece
of metal in the window. Sliding it in and out of the window should produce
a spark
at the plugs. If not, then unplug the sensor (near the seat post between
the engine
and transmission) and on the module side of the connector, jump the red and
green
wires' terminals. This should produce a spark. If not, verify 12 volt
power to the
sensor, and to the module itself, verify also good grounds.
Next test the coil using a test harness simulating a set of points.
If you can make good spark at the coil and all the inputs and to the module
are good,
put in a new module.
