Chuck, the twin cam and evo XL have the oil filter fed off the oil pump on
the -feed-
side, so whatever air is in the filter must go through the oil passages of
the engine before the
oil will get there. It's possible that an air bubble can get trapped in a
lifter and cause it
to bleed down easily and the engine will clatter on startup until the
bubble has worked it's
way out. It happened to mine, took about 500 miles before it stopped doing
it.
