In an effort to standardize terminology, the sprocket is fastened to the main drive gear,
through which the mainshaft penetrates. The countershaft is about 4 inches further
forward in the case, you can see the end of it on the case.

You can try relapping the spacer to the main drive gear to seal that, and install new seals on the main drive gear where the mainshaft comes out, and the
large seal where the spacer is, and if it leaks
again in short order, then it's time for a new main drive gear bushing, and possibly a new mainshaft,
if it's worn considerably.
Or you could fix it permanently with a 5 speed conversion.

Possibly, take advantage of being in there already, unbolt the engine and trans and see if
it needs to be shimmed at the mounts. If it's twisting in the frame when tightening down, then
it can create all kinds of interesting side effects.
