For those mechanically inclined, it may seem like a racket, but only if you
participate. Do what you can. Many can't or don't want to.
I think they should incorporate some time intervals, as riders run the gambit
from 20K miles a year or more to only a few hundred miles a year.
I'd suggest a 10K every year, unless you ride in the rain a lot, then lube your
cables
and controls a -lot- more often.
The 5K can be a mid-season (for those having seasons) service and you can change
your
own oil and adjust your chain every 2500 miles during the summer.
