Detonation is the result of high pressure, too little fuel, or too much ignition
advance.
You can retard the timing, fatten up the mixture, or lower your cranking
compression,
run a higher octane fuel.
You can also adjust the VOES switch to retard the timing at a higher vacuum
setting.
I think that's just a bandaid though.
I would start with the fuel mixture.
